Work on the creation of the geographic information system of Astana – REC JSC

The geographic information system of Astana-REC JSC is a software for managing data on electric grid facilities. The system is designed for digital certification, editing existing and mapping new facilities and power supply networks.

The system is based on a 1:2 000 scale digital map of the territory of Astana, which contains detailed diagrams of all the company's networks. The map is supplemented with detailed layers containing information about substations, transformers, and power transmission lines. To work effectively with data, a hierarchical storage structure has been developed that reliably links each power supply facility with its exact location and attribute information on the map.

The technical basis of GIS is the ArcGIS platform. Specialized services are deployed on its servers, which, through the company's geoportal, provide:

• Mapping and processing of cartographic data;
  
• Performing various measurements and calculations;
  
• Performing overlay operations (analyzing the relative location of objects);
  
• Preparation and printing of graphic documents.

GIS of Astana-REC JSC is available through any modern web browser (Opera, Firefox, Chrome, Edge) and does not require the purchase of additional paid software.

The introduction of GIS allowed the company to solve key tasks related to the collection, centralized storage and operational processing of all spatial data on networks, as well as to conduct a complete digital certification of power grid facilities.
